Shooting lower golf scores can be a difficult thing to accomplish especially if you are not able to practice and play much. However if you learn the right things to practice you can still at least occasionally break 80 and enjoy the game more even with little practice. Here some tips that can help you to become a better player faster: Tip 1: Focus on the short game Most amateurs do not spend enough time hitting shots around the green like chip shots and bunkers shots and also practice putting especially short putts. The short game is the foundation of great golf so if you have a poor short game it will also affect the other areas of your game including the full swing. Tip 2: Stay in the present It is easy to get frustrated and keep dwelling on the previous mistakes you have made. This can cause you to play even more poorly and will not help you to enjoy the game more. If you hit a bad shot try to learn something from it quickly and then simply forget it and move on believing that you will hit the next shot well.
Another mental mistake many golfers make is to think about the future and what score they might make. This can cause you to get tight and lose focus on the shot at hand which will cause you to hit more bad shots. Do your best to avoid thinking about your score. Total your score at the end of each round and just focus on playing one shot at a time. Tip 3: Practice at home There are many training aids that you can use that can allow you to practice your swing at home. You can definitely practice putting at home as all you need is a carpet and a putting cup. Practice a lot of short putting as they are critical to great putting. A simple homemade training aid is to simply take the handle of an old club and swing that indoors. This requires little space and will allow you to condition your full swing without having to spend a lot of time and money on range balls. Tip 4: Take up weight training Developing stronger muscles will only help you to hit the ball further and straighter. Consider doing regular weight training exercises to strengthen your muscles, join a local gym or buy a good piece of fitness equipment that you can use in the comfort of your own home. Tip 5: Quiet your mind The most important part of any golf shot is how you think right before you make the swing or shot at hand. Perhaps the best approach is to simply quiet your mind and think only about the target and simply let it go. Thinking too much can cause you to get tight and this can result in poor golf shots and great inconsistency. Keep things simple to give yourself the best chance to improve and shoot low golf scores.
