Learning the game of golf can be difficult and frustrating. The professionals on television make the game look easy but you need to remember that they have spent years practicing and fine tuning their game. Patience is very important because it can take time to master the game of golf and become a lower handicap player. One of the best ways to learn the game is from the green back to the tee. So the first thing you need to learn is how to putt well. Putting is not as difficult as many people make it out to be. In fact most people are naturally great putters, the problem is that most putters get in their own way. Confidence is a critical factor to great putting and many amateur golfers let doubts and fears lower their confidence levels on the green to the point where they become ineffective. There are many mechanical approaches to putting and you should consider taking a putting lesson from a local golf pro or simply watch some of your favorite players on television and copy the putting techniques they use. Tape their putting strokes and watch it in slow motion so you can learn even better. Pick one main mechanical approach and stick with it. When you read greens trust your first impression as it will be accurate most of the time.
Chipping and hitting shots around the green like bunker shots are also very important to help you shoot lower golf scores. Practice various shots from all kinds of lies, look for the worst lies you can and try to master those shots, this will make hitting these short shots from the course much easier as you will most likely get much better and easier lies. For most chip shots you want to use an open stance which is your feet should be pointing to the left of the target (this applies to right handed golfers) and you want the ball back in your stance towards your right foot. Be sure to spend a lot of time hitting wedge shots from various distances inside of 135 yards. If you can master the wedge then hitting longer shots well will become a lot easier since the full swing is simply an extension of the shorter swings like those made using a wedge. Learning the game of golf can be tough however keeping things simple is often the best way to go in order to develop greater consistency. The ‘Simple Golf Swing’ system can help you get better at golf using a proven simpler method of playing the game that can help you shoot better scores fast. Click here to learn more. |
