No golfer enjoys slicing the ball as it usually results in short and inaccurate shots that can cost you many strokes on the course. It is very easy to slice the golf ball and getting rid of it or at least hitting this type of shot less often can be tough to do. You need to develop a good understanding of golf swing mechanics and what really causes the slice. In simple terms the slice shot is caused mainly by having an outside to in club head path. Here are some tips that may help you to slice the ball less often and hit better golf shots: Tip 1: Keep the right hand passive It is important to not get your right hand involved too greatly during the golf swing. Using your right hand to try to muscle the club will usually produce an outside to in club head path that will result in a slice shot. You should try instead to use your left hand and think about pulling the club on the downswing with your left hand as this will promote a better swing plane that produces straighter golf shots. Tip 2: Make sure the club face is square at setup When you setup to the ball be sure that the face of the club is pointing directly at the target and not to the right of it which is also known as an open club face which will promote a slice shot.
Tip 3: Swing within yourself Many times golfers will try to kill the ball in order to get more distance. This usually results in poor swing mechanics and loss of balance which will produce many slice shots. You should not swing with everything you got, instead the maximum you should go to is 90% of your full capacity which you may use for the driver and long irons. This will help to produce better golf shots that promote good balance and control and will help to cure the slice. Tip 4: Reduce tension Being too tense can result in poor swing mechanics that in turn can cause slice golf shots. Tension usually results from caring too much about results so learn to be a little less serious about results and simply focus on having a good time and doing the best you can on each shot by simply looking and reacting to your selected targets. Tip 5: Use proper grip pressure Gripping the club too tightly can also cause poor golf shots including the slice. For most shots you do not want to exceed 30% of your maximum grip pressure and you should apply the majority of your grip pressure with the left hand.
