How To Eliminate A Golf Slice Fast

Slicing a golf ball is one of the most common problems faced by amateurs. Learning how to cure the slice does not have to be difficult. In most cases a simple change in your swing can make a drastic difference and have you hitting straighter shots more often. The reason golfers slice the ball is primarily due to an outside to in club path that puts slice spin on the ball. Thus to cure the golf slice at its root you need to develop a swing that comes more from the inside so that you do not put slice spin on the ball nor do you want to put hook spin either so do not come from too much on the inside.

One of the first things to check is your grip and club face at the address position in your stance. Make sure the club face is square at setup and not open which usually can contribute to hitting slice shots. Also make sure the club face is not closed or facing to the left of the target (right handed players) as this can lead to hook shots or snap hooks which can be just as bad as slices.

The next thing to check is your grip pressure, make sure that it is light and not too strong. Holding the club too tightly can cause problems with the release of the club at impact so do not hold the club too strongly. The backswing is important and a good one can make hitting straighter shots that much easier. Focus on a one piece takeaway which means you should take the club back with your less dominant left hand. Make sure the club head follows a path not too much on the inside in the back swing otherwise this can lead to over compensation in the down swing which can lead to an outside to in path which causes slices.

Another important thing to check is your feet alignment in the setup position. Make sure they are aligned directly with the target and not to the right of it which is the normal setup to cause a slice shot. The tempo of your swing is also important and should be controlled and balanced. Some people will naturally have a faster tempo than others. However many golfers tend to rush their swings faster than their normal tempo especially with the driver because they think trying harder will lead to more distance.

Instead you should slow down your tempo a bit and learn how to make better contact first before you try to add power. The truth is once you develop better swing mechanics your body will naturally turn up the power dial as long you want to hit the ball further so distance will follow but you must get good mechanics first. Developing good swing mechanics is the first step to getting rid of the slice. ‘The Dave Way’ golf training system is designed to help you stop slicing the ball almost instantly.
