Getting better at golf is a difficult challenge and requires a lot of commitment and practice. However there are things you can do to speed up the rate at which you improve. There are players who practice and play very little yet manage to consistently shoot in the 80’s while others struggle to break 90 with the same amount of effort. Practicing smart is the key to improving at golf quickly. First you need to understand the best way to learn the game of golf. Most amateurs first take out their driver and try to hit the ball a mile without even looking at the short game. This is a big mistake and these players progress will remain hindered until they pay proper attention to the short game. A good short game is critical in order to build a solid long game. The reason for this is that confidence plays a big role in playing good golf. If you have a great short game then you will swing more freely and confidently with the longer clubs since you will not be afraid to miss a fairway or green every now and then since you know you have the short game to recover well most of the time. Also keep in mind that the full swing is simply an extension of the shorter swings so having a good wedge game will help you develop better full swing mechanics.
Learning how to putt should be the first step to learning how to play golf. Putting can seem complex and difficult however it does not have to be that way. Remember that putting is primarily a mental game so avoid getting overly caught up in mechanics. This does not mean putting mechanics are not important. A good way to learn putting mechanics is by either taking a lesson from a local pro or watching a favorite golfer and copying their style. Spend enough time hitting chip shots and bunker shots around the greens as these short shots are critical to shooting lower scores. Also hit at least half of the balls at the range with your wedge practicing shots from various distances from 40 to 135 yards. If you can hit your wedges well then mastering the full swing will become much easier. Keeping the swing simple is often the best approach. The ‘Simple Golf Swing’ system can teach you simple and effective ways to hit the golf ball farther and straighter. Click here to learn more. |
