Driving a golf ball far is one of the best experiences in the game of golf. However few golfers ever learn to hit their drives long consistently and an even fewer amount learn how to hit the ball over 300 yards with their driver. Here are some tips to help you drive the ball far and straight: Tip 1: Do Weight Training Workouts Strengthening the muscles in your body will only make executing a powerful golf swing that much more easier. You should consider joining a local gym or getting some weight training equipment that you can use from home. Be sure to do exercises for both the upper and lower body. A great upper body exercise is the bench press and a great lower body exercise is the squat or leg press. You should also do exercises specifically for the abdominals like the weighted ab crunch or weighted ab twist. Also be sure to do wrist curls to further build up the wrist muscles as they play an important role in the golf swing. Tip 2: Learn How To Increase Leverage In Your Swing Developing more lag or leverage is one of the keys to hitting the ball farther and generating greater club head speed. You should think about releasing the club at the last possible moment. One way to accomplish this easily is by using a whipping motion through the downswing as this will naturally promote greater lag.
Tip 3: Do Not Swing Too Hard With the driver you want to swing at 90% of your full capacity. This will ensure that you have a balanced swing that also has sufficient power. If you step up to the ball trying to kill it then you will more than likely make a poor swing and get a bad result. Tip 4: Grip The Club Lightly You do not want to grip the driver too tightly. The only time you would consider increasing grip pressure to above 75% of your max is if you are in deep rough and want to prevent the club head from twisting. The driver’s grip pressure should be around 25% of your maximum so it is quite light. This will promote a better release and follow through and will also encourage a looser and freer golf swing which produces straighter shots. Hitting the driver well can help you shoot lower scores. The ‘Simple Golf Swing’ system can teach you a simpler way to swing the club for straighter and longer shots. Click here to learn more. |
