Three Quick Golf Tips to Lower Your Scores

Finding time to practice your golf game is one obstacle that stands in the way of improving your golf game. If you find yourself short on time you may need to try to take as many shortcuts as you can. While this is not the ideal situation to scoring better, it can lead to more enjoyment of the game. Here are 3 quick tips that will have you playing better golf.

First up is how to drive the ball better. Everybody seems to want more distance out of their driver but this is usually one of the reasons most amateurs play poorly. The quest for distance ends up producing offline shots that are hard to recover from. Concentrate more on controlling the ball and driving it into the fairway. A shot played from a slightly longer distance but in the fairway is much easier than a shorter shot played from the rough, or trees, or sand bunkers. Here is how to gain that control. Grip down on the club about 1 to 2 inches and take a three-quarters swing. Shortening the club and taking a shorter backswing will allow you to control the driver much more easily. Practice this a few times and you will soon be driving the ball much straighter.

Next let's take a look at your short game. Getting the ball up and down around the greens is a must if you want to lower your scores. Wasted shots around the green can destroy a good round. To improve your chipping and pitching game use these simple tips. Use a ten finger grip when chipping or pitching. Adding all ten fingers to the club helps your feel and will also keep your wrists firm. Strike the ball with an aggressive stroke. Slowing down when chipping will cause thin and chunked shots. It may seem counter-intuitive to hit the ball firmly from such a short distance but the ball will take off on a nice high trajectory by utilizing the loft of the clubhead. This will cause the ball to land nice and soft and your short game shots will drastically improve.

Now for the part of the game that everybody can easily improve in, putting. Putting doesn't take a great amount of power or hand eye coordination. The putting stroke is a small short stroke that almost anybody can do. Use this drill to improve your putting, you can even do it right before your round. Grab two extra clubs from your bag and head on over to the practice green. Pick a nice flat spot in front of a cup on the practice green. put one club down on the green in line with the line that the putt would have to travel. Set this up about 3 feet from the hole. Now move the club about 3 inches further away from you if you were standing to putt. Now do the same thing except this time put the other club where the toes on your feet would be. Now simply start stroking putts with your feet lined up to the one club and your ball just inside the other club. This will set up a perfectly square putting station that will help you groove the perfect stroke.

These tips can really help you improve your golf game quickly and easily. Give them a shot today and see what happens!
