How to Stretch Correctly and Help Your Muscles to Play Well
If you are going to take up golf or are a regular golfer do you know how to stretch correctly and moreover do you have a set routine to follow so that you are helping to increase your flexibility and therefore have a better round of golf without any discomfort.
You need to invest time in your body way before you worry about the best clubs to buy as without a body in good condition your clubs will be of no benefit to you, now this does not need to be at a great cost or consume a lot of your time as there are many resources to help you with some basic stretching exercises that will become irreplaceable so that each time you play golf your body will perform with pain.
Any professional golfer you talk to will say that stretching before their round of golf is essential to performing on the course and not becoming tight when playing a pressure shot, whether you have Yoga type of exercises or some simple general body stretching there is no excuse to do nothing before you play.
Try some shoulder stretches to start with, lift your arm to shoulder height then bring it across and in front of your chest, bend your elbow and hold the elbow with your free hand, apply some pressure for 10 seconds then release and make sure you do this with both arms at least five times each.
Now some forward and back arm stretches, with this one its is just a matter of standing with feet shoulder width apart, stretch out your left arm in front of you and the right arm behind, try to reach with both arms so you can feel some tension, change round and do at least 5 repetitions with both arms.
This exercise is great for the lower back and gluts, lie on your back and bring one knee up and grasp it with both hands and pull the knee towards your chest, hold for ten seconds and repeat with the other leg.
For your upper chest, stand with feet shoulder width apart, put your hands behind your back and hold them together and then lift up your arms as far as possible without discomfort and try to do this 5 times at least.
This exercise is good for the shoulders, find a bar or surface you can hold on to, palms down and lower your body by bending your knees, this will start to stretch your upper body and by just putting a little more tension with each repetition you will stretch the muscles and gradually feel tension being released around the shoulders.
