Golf Slice Reduction Tips For Better Scoring
No one likes to slice a golf ball, it leads to a weak and wayward shot that ends up costing you a lot of strokes on the course. However there is a cure to this common problem and it lies in first understanding what is causing it to begin with. Slice golf shots occur because of the incorrect type of spin being imparted on the golf ball. The wrong kind of spin is put on the ball for many reasons including an outside to in or over the top swing path. It can also result from a poor release so be sure to swing fully through the swing to a full finish.
How to avoid coming over the top:
Making sure the club head path is coming from the inside is a key factor to preventing the slice shot. One culprit of the over the top move is using the right hand (applies to right handed golfers) too much and casting the club which causes an over the top motion. Focus on keeping the right hand passive throughout the swing, instead think of the left hand pulling the club through the hitting zone on the downswing. Coming out of the swing too early can also cause a slice shot so as you have probably heard many times you need to keep you head down especially through impact so avoid the temptation to look too early to see where the ball is going.
Releasing the club fully is also important in order to hit straighter shots so be sure to avoid hanging onto the club through impact and simply let your hand cross over through impact for a full and proper finish. Another factor that can cause the slice shot is rotating the hips too early, there should be a lateral shift of weight during the downswing and the hips should rotate after impact and not at the top of the swing. Using the right equipment is also important in order to hit straight shots. This is especially true for the driver since you will need to make sure you get the right driver for your swing type.
If you generate a lot of club head speed (over 110mph) then you will want a driver with around 9 degrees of loft and a stiff shaft. If you have a club head speed under 100mph then consider a driver with at least 10 degrees of loft and a regular or senior flex shaft. Balance is critical if you want to develop a consistent and reliable golf swing so make sure to always swing within yourself and maintain solid balance on every shot.
