Putting Help - Use This Simple Drill to Find the Right Pace For Your Putts For Duffers
Are you trying to improve your golf game? Do you want a lower handicap? Maybe you want to collect a few more skins from those golf buddies of yours? Most golfers are trying to improve something in their game. It seems to be "par for the course" (forgive the pun). Golfers are never quite satisfied with how well they are playing, are they? Many are working on driving it farther and straighter while others are striving to make more greens in regulation. There is a lot of attention paid to those areas of the golf game.
What might be more beneficial is to invest a bit of time into developing a better putting game. Putting accounts for more than 40% of your total strokes. You will have more putts than drives, approach shots or bunker shots. Conclusion: you can save more strokes with improved putting than any other type of shot. Putting boils down to the correct pace and line. This article seeks to help you develop better control of the pace or speed of the putt.
A very common putting fault is deceleration of the putter head in the forward stroke. This causes the putts to be left short of the hole. It can make you feel awful to have left a putt just short of the hole when it was on the right line. It would have gone in if the pace had been right. That four inch putt counts just a much as the 280 yard drive. One shot. To help you sink more putts and avoid that sinking feeling of a putt left just short of the hole, I would like for you to consider using this acceleration drill to help you develop the right pace for your putts.
Acceleration Drill
You'll need a hole to yourself on the practice green. Lay a wedge across the very front of the hole blocking the line of your putt. You will want to use the smallest part of the shaft so use the end near the club head. Drop some balls about three feet out and make the putt with enough pace so that ball will jump over the shaft and land in the hole. Yes, hit the putt that hard. A properly struck putt will impart top spin and the ball will pop up in the air when it hits the shaft and fall into the hole on the other side.
If you decelerate through the putt, the ball won't have the energy to make it over the shaft. What you want is a smooth stroke that generates enough speed and top spin to just drop into the cup over the shaft. Work on this drill as regular part of your putting practice time. Vary the distance as you improve. It will train you to make the proper accelerating stroke and you will see more putts fall. This will build the confidence you need to make those short putts nearly every time.

Effective Golf Mental Tips For Lower Scoring - ...amateur players are very poor at managing a golf course properly and simply take too many unnecessary risks.
