Want to Fix That Golf Slice? 3 Tips to Help You Fix Slice and Bring More Enjoyment to Your Golf Game

"Anyone for slice golf?" If you wish to cure that awful slice from your golf game once and for all, then I have a few pointers which should help get you well on the way.

I myself have been golfing for years now, and until very recently, my biggest hurdle to overcome, was that of slicing the ball. I had developed an unruly swing to try and combat the slice, but this had little effect on promoting the straight flight of the ball.

After adopting a different method, my game has since improved rapidly and my enjoyment "buzz" is back. Here are 3 tips that have helped me leave my slice golf behind and should also help do the same for you:

1) Foot positional awareness. Have you checked your feet? If you are facing the wrong way when you make your shot, you could, as I have done, end up playing a completely different course to that of your pals. So, a good way to check your foot position, is to line up in the direction of where you want the ball to end up, and then lay down a club in front of both of your feet, so that it is parallel with your toes. Follow the line of the club, and this is a good guide as to which direction your ball will actually travel in, presuming you have all the other areas of your swing mastered. If your feet are wrong, this definitely won't help alleviate the slice.

2) Power. Do not try and smash the casing off the ball. I find that the more you try to do this, the more your rhythm is upset, and the less accurate the shot. SWING THE CLUBS, that is what they are designed for. Let the club face lofts do their job. A slower, more deliberate swing to start with is best. The power will come with time, as you eventually develop a swing that will become second nature. Keep the brute strength capped. The slice will just be more drastic otherwise.

3) Body sway. Don't sway your body on the backswing. Instead, turn your shoulders and waist, while keeping your head still and eyes on the ball. This will ensure that your downswing returns the club square to the ball, enabling an accurate strike. If you don't address the ball squarely, you will only be encouraging that slice to occur, thwarting your efforts, and ultimately detracting from your enjoyment.

Effective Golf Mental Tips For Lower Scoring - ...amateur players are very poor at managing a golf course properly and simply take too many unnecessary risks. You want to have a conservative approach and an aggressive swing. Keeping the ball in the fairway is far more important than how far you hit the ball. A lot of courses have fairly short par 4 holes that are under 400 yards. Most amateurs should simply take a 3 wood or long iron and aim for the 150 marker instead of trying to smash a driver close to the green which in most cases will result in a poor shot either in the rough or the...
